An Open Letter To The Football League

Dear Football League
I am writing an open letter to you using the likes of social media to put it in out in the open domain. As you will be aware, Coventry City were taken away from their home city after more than a century and marooned in Northampton. I am sure however, you know the facts as you have stated as much. So you will be aware of spectacularly plummeting "home" attendances. You will be aware a fan's group has offered to pay the rent for a return to Coventry. You will be aware this was rejected out of hand by the club's owners.
Yet, you say your main objective is to help the club return to the Coventry "area." It is a term the vast majority of Sky Blue fans find deplorable. We are not a cricket outfit representing a County, we are from a City with a long and proud history. Anything else, than playing within our City boundaries represents the road to franchise, as residing thirty five miles from Coventry is just that.
To be frank, your statement today was completely unacceptable. It is both spineless and shallow. It casts you as nothing more than a reluctant bystander who has been caught up in a bitter dispute. There is a distinct lack of anything that gives a clue to the fact you are supposed to be the governing body of seven two League clubs.
There are many unanswered questions, that once again have Coventry fans asking, why?
Why, is a perfectly good offer to be returned to the City allowed to be snubbed by the hedge fund owners? You offer no comment and such silence can only be taken as a vindication of your indifference on the matter.
Why do you continue to be silent on the fact there is no proof a new stadium will ever be built by the owners? Over a year since the project was announced, not one brick has been laid, not one acre of land purchased.
Why, can you not see this was because the hedge fund's overall objective is to force the cheap sale to them of a prime Coventry asset, the Ricoh Arena? A high court judge this week ruled as much, doesn't  that change the dynamic, and increase your power to act on the matter?
Finally, why are you allowing a much loved institution to die? Are you in fact using the issue as a backdoor to football franchising? Which will change football in this Country forever. A ruling body as a reputable body only exists while it has respect for its authority. Anything less is the road to anarchy, where rogue football club owners run amok over the games rulers and fans.
I am sorry to be so blunt, so caustic but your lack of action has led to much frustration and the edge of   despair. The people of Coventry deserve better. They have survived centuries of change, two bitter wars. We will not go away lightly. We will keep asking, Why? And When, will you act?
