Lest FIFA Forget

In fields adorned with poppies, echoing FIFA's shame
Each symbolising the fallen, lost to the beautiful game
Somebody never again to watch or play for their team
To hear the roar of the crowd, live out their dream
Died on battlegrounds resembling muddy pitches
Paved the way for today's players untold riches
For greater sacrifice their days were shortlived
Taken too soon with so much still to give
Now each year we take out time to remember
Wear a little red flower of pride in early November
Lest FIFA forget it's not behind politics we hide
But a simple thank you, a poppy worn with pride
